November Delivery!

Our November delivery will take place this Friday, 11/20/09. We'll offer four flavors: vanilla*vanilla, chocolate raspberry, cookies and creme and one of my favorites, a coconut and custard cupcake. The coconut and custard is in honor of an old family recipe. My paternal great-grandmother, Nannie, used to make a coconut cake and a boiled custard. The proper way to eat the two was to cover a slice of cake with the creamy custard and let it soak in for a few minutes. It was amazing and after she was no longer able to make the custard, my mother took it on because it was such an important tradition. Now, I make the cake and she makes the custard and I'm learning the process! This cupcake will be Nannie's coconut cake soaked with a little boiled custard-- you may need a fork for this one!

As always, cupcakes are $2 each and the delivery fee is $3. Free delivery when you purchase 2 dozen or more. We can also deliver single cartons of Horizon organic milk if you'd like for $1.75 each.

Orders should be emailed to me by Thursday at 10:00am. You may pay cash on Friday or use your Paypal account. Paypal payments must be made by noon on Thursday.

Happy Monday!

Bueller?

Anyone out there? Anyone checking this little ol' baking blog? Just wondering. If you're there, here are a few pictures whilst I ignore my evening chores and procrastinate a little more while watching L&O.SVU. Tra la, tra la!

Do I miss it?

Over the summer, I baked all day on Thursdays and Fridays. It got a little easier with Maggie's help, but until the second weekend in September, I had two whole days that were consumed with flour and butter and sugar and whatnot. I'm enjoying the "time off," and it's giving me a chance to reflect and try out some new ideas. I've recently discovered IronCupcake and am flirting with the idea of joining in the competition (although this month's challenge may be out of my range (wink, wink)-- it's "Music"). I'm contemplating on flavors for this months delivery. Obviously, we'll do a pumpkin (but with a cream cheese frosting or a chocolate frosting?), and maybe a raspberry in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness (going for pink). Any ideas or flavors you'd like to see? Caramel Dipped Apple Cider was very popular, so we may offer that flavor again. Just need a chocolate based and we'll be set!

We're offering four flavors: caramel apple cider, chai tea (I am so excited about this one!), vanillaX2 and chocolate hazelnut (I heart Nutella). Olde Salem Days

It's here-- the busiest day on Salem's Main Street! We'll be on a market stall, like usual, but hopefully closer to Main Street. We'll have some of our most popular flavors: chocolate malt, dreamsicle and twice vanilla, and one new flavor-- spiced pumpkin with a cream cheese frosting. We'll also have (if all goes well tomorrow!)some cupcake pops and cupcake truffles. Come say hello!

Saturday's Flavors!

The German chocolate cake is so yummy! We've been snacking on the practice batch all week. So on Saturday, we'll have our version of a German chocolate, vanillavanilla, our almost-famous carrot cake with cinnamon cream cheese frosting and a caramel-dipped apple cupcake. Yay September!

Next Saturday is Old Salem Days here in town; the big crafty brew-ha-ha that takes over several blocks of Main Street. We'll be at the Market, but closer to Main Street, rather than our regular spot next to Greenwood Farms, up Broad Street. We'll have our regular selection of cupcakes, but we're working on some very cute cupcake treats as well. Don't forget that we're gearing up for cupcake deliveries! We'll be posting those dates here soon. If all goes the way it's planned, we'll have PayPal set up here so you can just order and pay online. Who doesn't need cupcakes when it's that easy? :)

Practice Cakes

Working on this week's menu. More specifically, I'm working on my version of a German chocolate cake. Last night's batch was pretty good. Of course, I loooovve the recipe I use for chocolate cake. It's dark chocolate as opposed to milk chocolate, but it's just so moist and delicious. I'm also thinking of doing a rootbeer float cupcake, too. We'll do our carrot cake and not sure what we'll make for our fourth flavor. Any ideas?

This Saturday at the Market!

Hello cupcakers! My apologies for not updating last week. My laptop kicked the bucket and I've been trying to figure out a replacement. I settled on a 10inch Acer netbook because it was so much more affordable and I love it! If you're in town and looking for a netbook or laptop replacement, go see Ben and Robert at PC Land. They are the bomb diggity.
And now back to cupcake news. Last week was great; I officially have an assitant, Maggie. She was one of my students who is an awesome baker and is now helping me on Fridays with prep and on Saturdays at the Market. I'm telling you, the girl is a pro. So last week, we had the classic (vanilla cake with chocolate buttercream), chocolate cake with a peanut butter buttercream (!!!), carrot cake with a cinnamon cream cheese frosting and my favorite of the day, a raspberry cake topped with a raspberry buttercream.
And this week should be awe.some. I've been in the kitchen all day and have got some perfect looking and tasting cupcakes-- a few new flavors, too. We'll have our light lemon cake with a lemon cream cheese frosting, baby loves (mixed) berries and our two newbies this week are a dreamsicle (vanilla and orange creme deliciousness) and, inspired by my daddy, a chocolate malt cupcake with a vanilla malt buttercream. I wish we could sell you a tall, cold glass of milk to go with it. Yum!!

And don't forget that we take special orders! A minimum order of one dozen; check out our flavors below or get in touch and we'll make something special just for you.

oh! And apparently, this past Tuesday (August 18th) was National Cupcake Day! Since we're not on the market on Tuesdays, we'll celebrate this Saturday. Mention NCD to us on Saturday and when you buy 3 cupcakes, you'll get 2 for free! :)

See you at the Market!

Saturday's Options!

Hey fellow cupcake lovers! Here are our flavors for this Saturday:

Carrot Cake with a Cream Cheese Frosting
The Half and Half-- a black tea cupcake with a lemonade frosting. The Arnold Palmer you can eat!
The Jackpot-- a rich chocolate cupcake with a mint buttercream. (Behind the name-- we got married on 7.7.07 and served cupcakes instead of traditional wedding cake and this was our favorite flavor!)
And back by popular demand, our Baby Loves Berries-- a moist vanilla cupcake with a swirl of homemade blueberry jam, topped with a blueberry cheesecake frosting.

I'm still working on a low sugar/sugar free carrot cake... we hope to have a few on hand this weekend.

Come see us at the Market!

Thank You!!!

Wow. Wow. Wow. What an amazing first day at the market! In case you missed the FB announcements or saw me anytime after noon today, we sold out! We took 150 cupcakes and we. sold. out. So many of my friends and family came out and thank you-- Mom and Kristin, Callie, Jason and Cash, Jessica and Chris, Leigh Ann, Lloyd and London, Taylor, Shelley and Maurecia, Nicole and Ben, Anna B and Oliver, Tulie, Scott and their boys, and a handful of others who were out and about. My biggest thanks today go to Jason and Whitney. I really appreciate all of you and your support.

And we're coming back next weekend! We took informal surveys today and found that we need to work on a few diabetic-friendly recipes (and maybe some gluten free treats as well) and that people want carrot cake, so those our goals this week. Next Saturday, we're planning on the following flavors:
Carrot Cake (a diabetic friendly version and a regular version with a cream cheese frosting!)
The Half and Half-- a black tea cupcake with a lemonade frosting
Chocolate Cupcake with a Mint Buttercream
Baby Loves Berries-- our most popular cupcake today will be back next weekend.

We may have one more flavor, depending on how the week goes. I've got a few flavor ideas I'd like to play around with this week. I got a great deal on some peaches from Thaxton and thinking about a peach and ginger mini bundt. I found some great homemade mimosa jam and am thinking that might make a great cupcake, too!

For those of you who found your way to this blog, thanks for checking us out. We'll have a few more pictures posted on the Flickr site tomorrow, so be sure to come back.

Happy Cupcakes!

Let the baking commence!

We're getting ready for our debut at the Salem Farmer's Market! We'll be busy tonight and tomorrow, measuring and mixing and baking and frosting. We're also thinking ahead about flavors for next week (I'm always inspired by a trip to the grocery store or farmer's market; earlier this week, I scored a great deal on some peaches grown in Thaxton and I'm planning on making a yummy peach and ginger cupcake!).
We can't wait to see you on Saturday! If you'd like to get in touch with us, email us at:

Come see us at the Salem Farmer's Market!

Welcome to half*caked, a small side project that we're currently working on. After much hemming and hawing, we've decided to try this selling-our-baked-goodness thing a go and we'll be setting up shop at the Salem Farmer's Market on Saturday, July 25th. Our plan is to be there for 3 Saturdays in a row, to see how it goes. If things go well, we'll get our tax permit and be there on most Saturdays until the end of this year, or until the cold becomes too much to bear. Next Saturday, we'll offer one breakfast cupcake, the Squashed Banana, and four anytime cupcakes-- a Plain Jane (vanilla cake with a chocolate buttercream), Pucker Up (lemon cupcake with lemon curd filling and a lemon cream cheese frosting), Baby Loves Berries (vanilla cupcake with a swirl of homemade blueberry jam and a berry cheesecake frosting) and my personal favorite, a dark chocolate cupcake with a peanut butter buttercream. If things go well next Saturday, we'll be back with different flavors on August 1st.
We'd love to see you next weekend and hear from you here! Leave us a comment and let us know what flavors you'd like to see at the Market!
